LC McKaddie

Author

Alright darlings, listen up. My name’s LC McKaddie, and I’m the author of the Wee Spikey book series. LC McKaddie’s not my real name, though. It’s just a pen name I use to protect myself and my loved ones. I don’t want them to be recognised in my books, or to be disliked for the things I write about. I don’t want them to blame me, either.

I don’t write my books to hurt people or to get revenge. I write them to show people that they’re not alone in their experiences, and that there’s always something to learn from them. I’ve got a bit of a wacky sense of humour, so I sometimes write in a sarcastic or even cynical way. This can be hurtful to some people, especially those who take themselves too seriously or who have trauma in that area. I try to avoid this by choosing my words carefully, but it’s impossible to know everyone’s triggers. Some people just like to blame me for their own problems, but as you’ll find out if you read my books, I’m not everyone’s doormat anymore, as I used to be. Even if that means losing friends. It’s better to have healthy friendships than to stay in harmful ones.

So, what else can I tell you about myself? I’m from Finland, the land of forests and lakes (and mosquitoes!). I grew up peacefully, exploring the natural world and being fascinated by the forces that rule the universe. As a child, I loved to watch insects and plants, and I enjoyed the freedom of being young. When I was seven, death crossed my path: my hamster died. It felt like the end of the world at the time, but it’s all a bit trivial now, isn’t it?

Like any good middle-class girl, I was forced to learn to play the piano (I hated it). I dreamed of becoming a florist, a stylist, an actress, or a ballet dancer, even though there were no ballet schools near where I lived. I also took singing lessons with the church organist, but my attempt to become an opera singer was a miserable failure.

I had a bright and happy childhood, and my creativity was always running wild. Despite being bullied at school when I was eleven, I always managed to find new friends. I also enjoyed my own company, and I spent a lot of time reading and writing poems about solitude and strong emotions. As a teenager, I negotiated my independence with my mother, who I had an exceptionally healthy relationship with. I met other creative teenagers, and together we were active in the local theatre society. We loved acting, improvising, singing, and dancing. Impro was our favourite, even on Saturday nights.

I’m a colourful mix of European cultures and languages. I speak six languages and can read three others. English isn’t my mother tongue, but I love it. For personal and professional reasons, I’ve lived and worked all over the world (except Asia). I’ve also lived in Switzerland for over 30 years now, where I’ve been exposed to the dangers of rigid confederate thinking and questionable lifestyles. This is where I met my husband, who is part Swiss and part Spanish. We speak French together, and sometimes (just for fun) we babble in Spanish or Swedish. We’re childfree and very happy to be so.

If you asked me to name one thing I’m proud of, it would probably be being part of the embroidery team that embroidered the tulle fabric for Kate Middleton’s wedding dress when she married Prince William in 2011. It’s true!

So, if you want to know more about Wee Spikey, click here. And if you want to know more about me and my life experiences, in the hope of finding advice and answers of your own, please read my books, which are available on Amazon. I recommend starting with the first one, Wee Spikey From A to Z. Other books will follow by and by.

It will give you more details about me and Wee Spikey, and I guarantee you’ll have a good laugh along the way. By the way, each version of my books will be available in three different languages: English, French, and Swedish.

I hope you enjoy my books!

My Specificities

Wee Spikey isn’t the only one to be special. I bet you’ve got your own quirks and unique things going on, just like everyone else! That’s what makes each of us stand out. Our little oddities and special talents are what define us and set us apart. It’s important to embrace these quirks because without them, life (and we) would be pretty dull. If you’ve got family and friends around, why not ask them what they dig most about you? Find out what little quirks they find endearing and totally you. If you don’t have anybody to ask, ask yourself and write a personal list!

One of my quirks is that I always come up with an alternative whenever someone suggests something. Like if someone says, “Let’s grab a drink at Dario’s,” I’ll be like, “Yeah, sounds good… but what about Mike’s Planet instead? It’s closer to my work.” Some folks find this super annoying, like I’m always hijacking the plan. But to me, it’s simple – just answer, “Nope, I’m set on Dario’s,” and we’re good to go. Still, I get that it might feel like I’m steamrolling folks who don’t really care where we end up.

Anyway, check out some more of my quirks below. You might find something familiar. Maybe we’ve got some traits or habits in common? If so, get in touch!
