This is me
Wee Spikey is a small creature who feels different from everyone else. They have no gender and prefer the pronoun “they/them”, even though it sounds a bit funny to those who aren’t used to gender neutral pronouns. Wee Spikey is the author McKaddie’s alter ego, a drawn version of themself in the Wee Spikey book series.

They’re neither male nor female, but genderless and timeless. Wee Spikey represents all those who don’t fit into the conventional boxes that society provides: gifted and/or highly sensitive people, multipotentialites, introverts, those who identify outside the binary view of gender and sexual orientation (LGBTQIA2S+), and anyone who’s made to feel like there’s something wrong with them.
In the eyes of society, Wee Spikey is weird, out of touch with the majority, and always “too much” or “not enough”. But Wee Spikey is simply Fantastic, Funny, and Fabulous. Just like you.

Wee Spikey is also exceptional, hairy, furry, fluffy, and sometimes spikey. But one thing is for sure: they rarely fit in somewhere and feel alone most of the time, even rejected.

Wee Spikey’s thoughts are fast, much too fast for most people. They’re like a hamster in a wheel – racing and going nowhere. Wee Spikey often feels bored in other people’s company. They see stories, imaginary castles, links, and bridges everywhere, while others stand gawking with confusion. Some things seem so obvious to Wee Spikey, which is absolutely not the case for others. This feeds even more misunderstandings between Wee Spikey and other people, and can become a big problem.
Wee Spikey’s great desire is to do something great for humanity, and to be able to be themself, whatever that means. They’re spontaneous, curious, frank, inquisitive, naive, emotional, and authentic. But when they try to be themself, they’re met with resistance and aggression. This can sometimes be very hurtful to Wee Spikey, as they don’t always understand other people’s reactions. This gives rise to many extraordinary situations that can be both funny, frustrating, traumatic, preposterous (what a wonderful word!), and totally crazy.
Another desire of Wee Spikey’s is to save the world and live happily ever after. Shouldering other people’s inner burdens is a habit of Wee Spikey’s. This happens regularly, probably because it might be hard for them to draw clear boundaries between themself, their own needs, and limitations. Unfortunately, having a tiny ego doesn’t serve them well and is confusing to both them and others.

Wee Spikey knows they’re not like others. The feeling of exclusion might be very strong as they don’t find any true friends or peers. Wee Spikey is very sensitive, even highly sensitive, which sometimes plays tricks on them. Wee Spikey will not always understand the boring behavioural codes of neurotypicals nor how easily neurotypicals follow (ridiculous?) societal norms. But Wee Spikey goes on being cheerful, and they bounce back every time they fall.
You probably get it: Wee Spikey has big dreams and big emotions, and Wee Spikey’s always authentic. Wee Spikey also lives and learns. This is certainly the case with you, too. And like Wee Spikey, you might feel alone in your life experiences. So join Wee Spikey on their adventures by reading the books, have a laugh, and feel accompanied!
